Ash Wednesday – 6th March 2019

This Wednesday we went into church for a service to recognise Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, which like Advent is a time of reflection for Christians- hence the colour Purple. Throughout Lent we will have a different topic of reflection each week.

We recognise Lent as it was the time when Jesus reflected in the desert and Christians try and spend more time with God. We often focus on fasting and’or praying and how we can give up something or give more to help those less fortunate. (That could be our money, time or talents. )

Are you giving up chocolate? Maybe, following Sir David Attenborough’s advice we should try and reduce or indeed give up plastic!

In terms of fasting, many Christians choose to give up chocolate. This is great – but given the problems with plastic in our oceans maybe giving up plastic for LENT is something you could choose to do.

Whatever you choose to do, we pray that this LENT you will feel the peace that only He can bring.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ” John 14:27
